One of the most apparently happy couples in public life–Al and Tipper Gore–recently announced their plans for their impending divorce. After four decades of marriage, raising four children, caring for their son through a terrifying car accident and enduring four presidential campaigns . . . you would think they made it through the hard part, right? Ummm, evidently not.
By the way, Al is now 62 and Tipper is 61. Michelle Cottle in The New Republic writes, “By striking out on their own, the Gores are exchanging one romantic fairy tale for another, embracing the promise of “new beginnings.”
Really?
One romantic fairy tale for another?
Since when did divorcing at 60 from someone you have been married to for 40 years become a romantic fairy tale?
It’s a shame that they decided to put an end to their marriage. It’s sad when two people divorce like this, I mean they have been with each other longer than they have been apart! I wonder why they think that they cannot work on this with the right consuling.
Considering Al Gore invented the internet, global warming and the lockbox, I’m sure he is pretty tough to live with.
